York City woman charged with striking dirt bike rider in hit-and-run after running stop sign waives preliminary hearing
A York city woman charged with striking and seriously injuring a dirt bike rider in a hit-and-run crash after she ran a stop sign will have her case proceed to county court after waiving her preliminary hearing earlier this month.
Priscilla Nicole Velazquez, of the 300 block of South Penn Street, waived her preliminary hearing before Judge Jonathan Heisse on Oct. 8 on two counts of accidents involving death or personal injury and three summary traffic offenses.
Velazquez, 33, is accused of running a stop sign at the intersection of South Lime and Dauphin streets in Lancaster city and then crashing head-on into the victim the evening of Aug. 16.
Following the crash Velazquez, whose license was suspended at the time, is accused of driving away and failing to render aid to the victim.
The victim was thrown from his bike and suffered bleeding in the brain as a result of the collision.
Police arrived at the scene to find the victim bleeding from his head. Velazquez was no longer at the scene.
Lancaster Safety Coalition surveillance video showed Velazquez failing to stop at the intersection, striking the victim and driving away shortly after 7:30 p.m. Footage also showed Velazquez stopping a few blocks later to check her vehicle for damage before continuing to drive away.
Velazquez is currently free after posting $50,000 bail.
Lancaster City Bureau of Police Officer Steven Nusca filed the charges.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
