Clay Township man sentenced up to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting child

A Clay Township man was sentenced to 10 to 25 years in state prison after he pleaded guilty last month to repeatedly sexually assaulting a young girl.

Judge David Ashworth sentenced Josue Efrain Rivera, 43, after he pleaded guilty Nov. 4 to charges of rape of a child, two counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse forcible compulsion, three counts of indecent assault of a person less than 13 years of age, corruption of minors and unlawful contact with a minor.

Rivera assaulted the victim on numerous occasions at his home in the 800 block of Hopeland Road between 2022 and 2025.

Police began investigating the assaults in January 2025 when Rivera approached law enforcement to report his actions. Rivera told police he inappropriately touched the victim multiple times, including having sex with the victim.

The victim, who was less than 13 years old when the assaults took place, told police Rivera had assaulted her. Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Ponessa prosecuted the case. Northern Lancaster County Regional Police Officer Matthew Speicher filed the charges.
