New Holland man charged with assaulting woman, using infant as human shield waives preliminary
A New Holland man charged with assaulting a woman and then using an infant as a human shield will have his case proceed to county court after waiving his preliminary hearing earlier this month.
Mupisi Mizowa, 43, waived his preliminary hearing before Judge Jonathan Heisse on Aug. 15 on charges of endangering the welfare of children, simple assault and harassment.
Mizowa, 43, is accused of assaulting the adult victim at his residence in the 200 block of East Jackson Street the evening of Aug. 3, then using the 1-year-old victim as a human shield, shaking her and refusing multiple police commands to place her down.
Police ultimately had to restrain Mizowa to keep him from further harming the infant victim.
A heavily intoxicated Mizowa had been yelling at the adult victim inside the residence shortly before midnight when he struck her twice in the head, then dragged her by the arm. Another juvenile inside the residence called police.
Mizowa remains in Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $500,000 bail.
New Holland Borough Police Officer Brett Reifsnyder filed the charges.
Assistant District Attorney Jessica Collo will prosecute the case.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
