Lancaster County Commissioners pass resolution to call on Governor Shapiro and Pennsylvania Legislature to come to agreement on budget

Lancaster, PA – On Wednesday, September 3rd, the Lancaster County Commissioners issued a resolution calling upon the Governor and Legislature of Pennsylvania to come together and finalize a budget without further delay.

This passage of the resolution comes in response to repeated budgetary delays that have significantly disrupted county operations across Pennsylvania and imposed undue financial strain on taxpayers. In the last 25 years, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has missed at least a dozen budget deadlines, causing significant disruption to county programs and funding.

Counties, school districts, and municipalities must pass budgets on time and in accordance with the law. State government should too. Lancaster County is known for its fiscal responsibility. Each year the County passes a timely budget that puts the needs of the citizens of Lancaster County first. The longer the Governor is unable to bring both sides of the legislature together and the longer it takes elected officials in Harrisburg to pass a budget the more it threatens Lancaster County’s 2026 budget and the taxpayers.
