Dauphin County man charged with robbing East Cocalico Township bank waives preliminary hearing

A Dauphin County man charged with robbing an East Cocalico Township bank last year will have his case proceed to county court after waiving his preliminary hearing.

Shannon Eric Steckbeck, of West Hanover Township, waived his preliminary hearing before Judge Clark Bearinger on Jan. 6 on a single count of robbery.

Steckbeck, 59, is accused of demanding employees give him money from the cash drawer of a Truist Bank in the 2600 block of North Reading Road the afternoon of Nov. 14.

A bank teller initially believed Steckbeck was joking until he stated it was a robbery and again demanded the money in the drawer. Steckbeck then fled the bank with cash.

Eyewitnesses spotted a man matching the suspect’s description entering a car parked about a block away from the bank and then quickly leaving the area.

Through the investigation police identified Steckbeck as the suspect and determined that he was also a suspect in a separate bank robbery in York County days later.

Northern York County Regional police arrested Steckbeck at a motel about a week after the East Cocalico Township robbery.

Steckbeck is currently being held in York County Prison.

East Cocalico Township Police Officer Steven Walsh filed the charges.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
